Fergus Purdie Architect was commissioned by a painter to design and construct a studio space. The brief necessitated an introspective space to concentrate solely on the artwork being created. This was achieved by designing a simple form, with a single rooflight that directs light into the space.
The minimal design, with its white render contrasts directly with the planting and foliage within the garden. The new plinth raises the studio above the garden and reduces the scale and impact of the studio within its surrounding environment.
The client is delighted with the finished building and continues to find it a space conducive to his work.
