Furniture Design Centre
Stanley Mills, Perthshire, UK
A furniture design school for post-graduate students focused on offering opportunities to develop businesses. The school incorporated design and production facilities, as well as public exhibition space to provide exposure for each furniture designer’s work.
Situated at Stanley Mills, the site of a former cotton mill on the banks of the River Tay, the site held significant history to draw inspiration from.
The design was concieved as an intervention to revitalise a derelict area of the historical complex. The existing warehouses were converted into workshops to process the timber. The existing goods yard was reused to create a public space, and a new timber structure was added to provide an exhibition space for the completed furniture.
