Stirling Prize 2012

Sainsbury Laboratory

Stanton Williams’ Sainsbury Laboratory has won the 2012 RIBA Stirling Prize. The prize is presented to the architects of the building that has made the greatest contribution to the evolution of architecture over the past year.

Stirling judge Joanna van Heyningen described the importance of this project as "the lifting of a building type that could have been utilitarian into … a sublime piece of calm and beautiful architecture".

Many congratulations to the team at Stanton Williams on this significant achievement, very much well deserved.
